A line edit, often called a “heavy” copyedit, focuses on areas such as:

Rate: Starts at $0.04 per word

There are different levels of copyediting—light, medium, and heavy—which focus on areas such as:

- Grammar, punctuation, and spelling;
- Consistency;
- Style guide adherence.

Rate: Starts at $0.03 per word

Proofreading is the last step after your writing is copyedited and formatted for production and focuses on areas such as:

- Lingering grammar, punctuation, and spelling errors;
- On-page layout;
- Typesetting issues.

Rate: Starts at $0.02 per word

For academic professionals seeking editing support, I provide the following services:

- Line editing or copyediting journal manuscripts and reviewer response letters;
- Formatting documents per journal style guidelines;
- Cross-checking in-text citations and references to identify missing or inconsistent entries;
- Formatting in-text citations and references per journal style guidelines;
- Reducing manuscript length when requested.

Rate: $65/hour (line editing); $55/hour (copyediting)

Costs vary depending on the project and the level of editing required. In general, I charge by the word; however, if you would prefer an overall project rate or an hourly rate, that’s workable as well. (My prices fall within the median EFA rates.)
